The Battle for Becoming More Authentic at Work

Many people act one way at work and one way at home. They believe that they need to be tough, even ruthless, at work. Win at all costs, no matter how many fall by the wayside.

The problem? Everyone is still a human-being at work, just as much as they are when away from work. The thin masks we wear at the office don’t fool anyone. It just makes us less effective and less able to connect with others.

The answer? Drop the mask. Be willing to disclose who you really are. Be yourself. Close the gap between who you really are and how you want to “be seen” by the world. We must let go of the desire to be inauthentic if we expect to grow as leaders.
