Dollars v. Good Sense

Life itself is difficult. Living life with integrity is one of the greatest challenges we face because it requires some really tough choices. It requires you to decide how you will define success.

Does success look like stress? Striving for the next new thing? Out of control and ready to go off the rails at any moment? The Buddha said “if a man’s mind becomes pure, his surroundings will also become pure.”

If we measure success by dollars then we must say that Gandhi, Thoreau, and Mother Theresa were all miserable failures. Could the mere act of chasing great riches prevent one from making real contributions that have a lasting benefit in the world? One could argue that there is an inverse negative relationship to chasing more and more money (or power) and being a truly successful person.

How do you define success? Beyond making a good living, when is enough, enough?
